Name a brand-name product that is 80% of American households. Coffee, bananas, toilet paper, soap? No, there are too many brand names that compete with each other there. There’s one item, though that’s been around since the mid-fifties that some of us could not live without. We use every week, and have hundred of uses for it. You likely use it, don’t even think much about it, and have many uses for it that others have not thought of as well. It’s WD-40! Yes the familiar blue & yellow can lubricant, water displacer, penetrating oil and so many other things.
Â
I was thinking about this yesterday as I was spraying some on my pruning shears. I had to cut a climbing vine down off my chimney. It was out of control in a very 1950’s sci-fi movie kind of way.  I always spray the shears before and after I use them. I find it cuts way down on the sticky sap that clings to the pruning shears and makes them much easier to use next time. WD-40 will keep the pruning shears from rusting as well!
Â
So it was ironic that the next page I turned to in Did Monkeys Invent the Monkey Wrench? was about WD-40. A good basic history of the product can be found here, but for a fun time (in a hardware sense) go to www.wd40.com. They have a great web site. Lots of information on their products, lots of tips, lots of fun info can be seen there. You can even sign up for an e-mail WD-40 tip of the week. I like fun companies like this.

So next time you need some WD-40 come see us. We always have plenty in stock. From the new convenient pen size, to a 5 gallon bucket, we’ve got it!Â
