The robins are all over my cherry trees again. That can only mean two things. I’m going to have fat robins hanging around, and cherry pie season is almost here! Now cherry pie is one of those all-American things I just love. Honestly, it’s not my favorite pie, but I always enjoy it for what it means, summer, fun, America!

But before those fat robins get all my cherries, we do have to pick them. It’s fun to watch the birds go after them, and I swear some of them really do have bellies bigger than my brother-in-laws. How do they ever fly with all that added weight? It’s as amazing a thing as seeing a C-130 take off fully loaded. So we pick the easy to reach cherries, and leave the ones way up there for the birds. Now what do we do with them?

I’m not a pie baker, but I do know how to get the cherries ready, and it’s the pits. Or more to the point, it’s the pits you have to remove. Fortunately I’ve been to Orchards Ace Hardware and purchased a cherry pitter. We have several models to choose from. We’ve got the basic hand-held to the almost automatic table top ones. They make a big this job, not the pits!

Then a stroll down our baking aisle to find pie pans, pie crust weights, pie toppers, and anything else you would need to bake a 3.1415927. Oh sorry, wrong kind of Pi. We’ve got pie carriers to take your wonderful pie to the picnic or church social. If you’re in to freezing or canning your cherries, we’ve got more canning supplies than anyone around.

So come see us for all your pitters, pans and pie needs!
