One of the coolest new products to come around in the past year or so at first seems to be one of the most boring. A dryer Lint brush. Yeah, not exactly a wild and exciting new technological leap forward. Or is it?

Consider this: I had a clothes dryer in a condo that I lived in many years ago that was perpetually clogged with lint. The dryer took at least three cycles to dry clothing. The poor design of the building made the vent very long and had many corners so lint always built up in the vent tube. The condo association hired a contractor to come out and clean these periodically at a huge expense. Then my dryer would work well for a few months.

I also had a dryer at another place I rented many years ago. The dryer worked very poorly and the landlord was about to buy a new one. I took the back off of it and cleaned out years of lint build up. The dryer was like new. My landlord was so happy she lowered my rent. (Yeah right. wishful thinking!)

Now we stock several dryer cleaning brushes so you can keep your dryer vent tube clean and free of lint clogs as well as keeping your dryer itself free from lint build-up. These are simple brushes that range from about seven to twenty dollars and are easy to use. A flexible long reach brush will reach down in to your dryer itself and pull the loose lint from those areas where the lint gets by the lint filter. A drill powered long flexible 4″ brush will reach down your vent tube and clean the lint that clings to the sides of the vent, closing it down like a bad case of cholesterol. Use these a few times a year and your dryer will run safer and much more efficiently. The money you’ll save on electricity by having to run your dryer for less time will easily pay for these tools and your time. Even more importantly, lint build-up can be a fire hazard, so it’s important to keep the vent clean.

So like I said, lint isn’t exactly an exciting topic, but getting rid of it is. A clean vent and a smooth running dryer will only make your life easier and possibly get rid of an annoying problem, and that’s always exciting!
