We’re not certain why, but we’ve had a very large increase of people asking for instructions lately. People will come in the store, some call on the phone, and ask about how to use something that they have bought. Now, we deal with this all day long. No big deal, that is what we’re here to do. However, we’ve really noticed that many people are not reading any instructions or any part of their owners manuals and are calling or coming in to see how something works. This will range from something simple and cheap, to a complex and expensive item. Old to young, male to female.

Why Is this? Have owners manuals become so painfully hard to read that no one wants too do so? Are the instructions that unclear? Are they written in a foreign language? Are manufacturers completely missing the point in instructing people how to use their products? Have we become so lazy as a society that we cannot even read the instructions for something that we just payed our hard-earned money for?

I must also say that we’ve heard the same thing from many of our customers in the trades. They are being called out by people to explain how to use something they installed, instead of the people reading their manuals. They’re being called to repair installed items that need no repair. Instead the person just needs to know how to use it.

You would think that people would rather read their manuals than drive to a store, or call someone to some to their home to see how something works. You would think that people would would rather take care of what they bought and get the most good use out of it, than guess what they’re doing and not read a manual.

Whatever the reason(s) we’ll keep answering your questions. It just makes us go Hmmm…
