Eagles 4, Rage 5, Advertisers 127
Posted by Clark under General
Saturday was the first game of the season for the Colorado Eagles. We at the store are fortunate to have season tickets that we all share, and my wife and I were fortunate enough to get them for opening night. If you haven’t been to an Eagles game, you really must go. Even if you’re not a great fan of hockey, it is a fun time. It’s inexpensive, easy to get to, and has a great local feeling about it. The quality of the hockey is very good as well. Well, usually it is. I hate to admit it, but we lost the opener. The goal tending was less than spectacular and the expansion team from Broomfield, the Rocky Mountain Rage won. I am writing this on Saturday just after watching a stunning, classic come-from-behind football victory by Notre Dame over UCLA. That’s what we were all hoping for last night, but just didn’t get it. Oh well, it was still a fun evening out.
Afterwards we went to Johnsons Corner for cinnamon rolls. I hadn’t been to this local establishment since they re-modeled. If you haven’t been there for awhile, go again, they’ve done a very nice job, and the cinnamon rolls are as good as ever!
That all made for a nice local night out on the town. It’s so much nicer to support a local team than driving down to Denver to support that other hockey team that plays in the NHL. It’s a great feeling to cheer for “our guys†as you sit there and read the ads from the local advertisers.
And that brings me to the third score in the title. Yes the advertisers clearly won the game, and likely win every game at the Budweiser Events Center. See, even there was a plug for the beer maker. I have been to a fair amount of stadiums and arenas in my life, but I’m not certain that I have ever seen more space used for advertising in my life. The marketers at The Ranch have done a remarkable job of selling advertising space to darn near every single open piece of anything. Even the blue line has advertising on it. I’m not complaining, even though it does seem a bit excessive. If that’s how they make money, keep tickets prices down, and keep a good team thriving, so be it. If you’re ever there in a boring game, try counting all the advertisers that you can see. It will take quite some time.
Plenty of games to watch this season, tickets are available. Get out and watch the Eagles, root for the home team, and enjoy a fun night out!
