Winter Projects
Posted by Mike under Guns
Well, I didnt make it out shooting Friday like i had planned. I have plenty of excuses, but the simple truth is I just didnt make out there. I burnt the clutch out in my car last week and its still not fixed so the prospect of driving my van out to the range, which is 50 miles from my home,  in a vehicle that gets about 8 miles per gallon just didnt excite me..haha Maybe next week things will work out better. I did however get on the bench and do some loading. I used to load all the time, but I used to shoot all the time too. I found I really missed it. I cooked up some loads for my one of my 221 Fireballs that should make the Prairie Dogs pop if I ever get to Wyoming to visit them. I need to talk Jr (the bosses son) into quiting his job so we can head up there on a regular basis next year…Im not holding my breath on that one though. I also worked up a load for my Marlin 322 in 222 Rem I need to try out. This gun is the one of weirdest guns I have come across. They made them 1954-1957 They all had Sako actions and Marlin Micro Groove barrels. But the idea didnt work out so well. The rifling would go away in a short time and Marlin eventually gave up on the idea. Mine still shoots well but only with one bullet. It will put 40 Nosler Ballistic Tips inside 3/4 Inch at 100 yards but every other bullet I have tried will keyhole everytime. I will just keep using that bullet until the barrels dies and rebarrel it. I Have taken out of the original stock and bedded into a Remington 40X stock. That was winter project a couple of years ago. For this years winter project I may try building a laminate stock for it. I have a nice blank just sitting in the corner of my garage, along with a couple of other winter projects in various stages of completion..haha Maybe if we actually have a cold snowy winter I will work on this stuff
